From 22 to 28 July, Italy will host the thirteenth edition of the 2024 European Padel Championships organised by the International Padel Federation.
In this way, Italy confirms itself as a strategic point for the growth of this sport at the highest level. The great continental competition organised by the FIP, the International Padel Federation, in collaboration with the FITP, the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, will be played in Cagliari, Sardinia.
After having hosted in the Sardinian capital numerous events of international level (the last one the FIP Platinum, stage of the CUPRA FIP Tour), Sardinia is ready to welcome, once again, the great champions of this discipline and the national representations of the European countries that will fight for the continental title.
Luigi Carraro, president of the International Padel Federation stated: “It will be a special European. A European that will represent the growth of padel at international level and the great work of the national federations in the development of our sport. I would like to thank all those who have contributed over the years to the spread of padel around the world: professional players, seniors, juniors, amateurs, coaches, referees and officials. In Cagliari we have experienced great public and padel events, and we are sure that Italy, a strategic country for the whole movement, will play a leading role in the organisation of a European Championship that will enhance an agonistic horizon that is particularly important to us: team competitions with the national team jersey. A special thanks to Fitp which, while maintaining a central role in Europe, has worked in recent years to achieve great sporting and public results“.
The 2024 edition of the European Padel Championships will be held in Italy for the fourth time since the competition was born. The first was in 1995 in Lido di Savio, a town in the municipality of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, followed by Bologna in 2005 and Rome in 2019.
In the 12 previous editions, Spain has won the title 10 times in the men’s category and 9 times in the women’s category.
Since 1995, the European Padel Championships has not stopped growing, in terms of Federations involved, public mobilised and athletes on court. A trend that has seen a progressive increase in the number of participating teams, with 29 teams in the 2021 edition in Marbella, including 16 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams.
Figures from the FIP’s Research and Data Analysis Department show that Europe is the continent in the world where padel is played the most: it is estimated that there are between 13 and 15 million amateur players.
Padel is played in every country on the continent, and as many as 36 federations representing as many nations are affiliated to the International Padel Federation.
There are more than 12,500 clubs and 42,000 courts where padel can be played. Moreover, in 2023, 73% of the official tournaments at international level organised by the FIP took place in Europe and, in the world ranking, 57% of the players (about 3,400) and 72% of the players (1,200) are European.
In this context, Italy confirms itself as a central axis in the growth of the movement, in terms of practitioners, facilities and events. This is why, from 22 to 28 July in Cagliari, the spectacle is guaranteed.
