The Bordeaux Premier Padel P2 was decided this Sunday with the finals. The absence of many top seeds in the tournament opened the opportunity to take the victory, which fell to Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto in the men’s category and Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez in the women’s category.
Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz have debuted in Premier Padel after winning their first title in the final of the Bordeaux Premier Padel P2, once they beat Momo Gonzalez and Alex Ruiz in the final by 6-1 and 6-4.
An unprecedented final this season and, in general, in the history of Premier Padel that ended with a new couple lifting the winner’s trophy. Ale Galan – Fede Chingotto and Agustin Tapia – Arturo Coello had shared all the titles so far. However, their absence in the tournaments left the door open for another duo to open their trophy cabinet.
The match didn’t start well for the couple from Malaga, who were 4-0 down in the first set. Coki and Jon overwhelmed their opponents today, who could only win one game, ending the first set 6-1. The 17 unforced errors were an impossible task for the players from the Costa del Sol.
However, Momo and Alex restarted and got back into the match in the second set. The score was even until, in the ninth game, Coki and Jon broke their opponents’ serve, which proved to be very valuable for them to close out the match 6-4 in the following game.
After winning their first title as a couple a fortnight ago, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez are back to lift a trophy in Bordeaux after beating Marta Ortega and Vero Virseda 7-5, 7-5.
The Menorcan and the player from Madrid reached their fifth final of the season on Sunday. Although they lost their first three appearances for the title, they haven’t let the title slip away in the last two tournaments.
In the women’s final of the Bordeaux Premier Padel P2, Gemma and Claudia rode firm in the first set, taking advantage of a break to take a 5-3 lead. However, Marta and Vero reacted and equalised at 5-5. Triay and Fernandez avoided the tiebreak at all costs and broke their opponents’ serve to close out the first set 7-5.
The second set started with all the action going to couple 1, who took the first four games. As in the first set, Ortega and Virseda equalised again, this time neutralising two breaks. However, once again, Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez avoided the tiebreak and with a break in the twelfth game they took the final 7-5 to win the Bordeaux Premier Padel P2.
