Among the various stages that any investor in the padel court sector must face, that of the project study is undoubtedly one of the most crucial and delicate in which no mistakes are allowed and in which every detail must be calculated to the centimeter.

And speaking of calculations and centimeters, it is precisely during this step that the issue of the space required for the construction of padel courts that are functional, comfortable and compliant with the standards set by the International Padel Federation must be addressed, and in this article we will analyze this issue closely so in order to provide anyone who is approaching this world with a detailed overview.

The dimensions of a padel court

As many of you surely already know, a padel court measures 20m x 10m (in standard version) or 20m x 6m in single version while the height is 4 meters on the back wall (3 meters of glass + 1 of fence) and three meters on the side walls of the court.

Up to here nothing new as the numbers just mentioned are by now well known to anyone but what not everyone might know, concerns the question of lights: the light poles must in fact be placed outside the court and the minimum distance between the bottom of the floodlight and the playing surface must be 6 meters.

The height of the structure for indoor padel courts

Therefore, it obviously goes without saying that, in the case of indoor padel courts, it will be necessary to have a structure that is high enough to ensure that these measurements are met.

What in any case we would advise is to opt for a structure that guarantees at least 8 meters of space between the flooring and the lights to ensure ideal playability for your players: remember that the lob is one of the most important shots in padel and because of this, players love clubs where they can perform them without the risk of hitting obstacles, while on the contrary there are numerous negative reviews in clubs with a ceiling that is too low (even if it complies with the parameters of the IPF, i.e. 6 meters).

The dimensions of the concrete slab

As you may know, before the installation of the padel court begins, you must have a base with a reinforced concrete perimeter at least 25 cm wide. The total dimensions of the slab that we would recommend for a padel court are at least 20.5 m x 10.5 m.

Separate discussion for mobile courts: Those of NXPadel, for example, undoubtedly the most innovative in the industry due to the ease of installation of its components, do not require the creation of the concrete slab, but work with a special system of counterweights to ensure perfect stability. For this type of courts, we recommend setting up a space of 20.5 m x 11.2 m.

How much space to leave between each padel court?

Regarding the space to leave between courts, there are no particular guidelines from the International Padel Federation manual. What is sure is that if you have a lot of space available, having at least 1.5 meters spacing between each padel court will ensure greater comfort for your players by providing a larger area for the audience and benches.

On the other hand, in case you have limited space, you can take great advantage of the special design of NXPadel’s Fiberglass Padel Courts and their light poles. They do not protrude from the court and will allow you to maximize your space.

In this regard, however, the playing space required for so-called “outside court play” deserves a separate mention. You have no doubt happened to see professional players retrieve a “por tres” by rushing out the court door: to provide a padel court where outside play is allowed, the IPF requires that on each side of the court there be 8 square meters of space (2 wide and 4 long) by at least 3 meters high.

Well, now that you have taken note of all the dimensions required to build a padel court, all that’s left is to move on to the next step: choosing the padel court of your dreams!

At this point, once you have defined how much space you will need to build your padel courts, the time for installation will come. An equally delicate phase in which surely, having the possibility of relying on a product like Fiberglass Padel Courts and ComfortGlass will make the whole process much simpler, faster and safer without absolutely renouncing the quality that these innovative structures can ensure to your project.
