The men’s number one is close to being defined. Agustin Tapia, Arturo Coello, Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno are the players involved in the fight to become the best players of the season. The first two have the advantage to achieve it, but until the mathematics don’t confirm it, we have to fight to get the best results in the three remaining tournaments.
Here we tell you how the Race 2023 is going and what would be enough for each couple to be proclaimed number one.
Currently, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia lead the Race 2023 with 15,845 points each, while Martin Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk have 13,910 points each. That means there is a difference of 1,935 points ahead of the Swedish tournament, with 3,500 points up for grabs until the end of the season.
The next World Padel Tour event will be in Sweden, at the Malmö Padel Open. Calculating with the calculator we tell you what chances they have to become the best couple of the year.
Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia could secure the number one spot in the world in 2023 if they win the Swedish tournament and Stupa and Di Nenno lose in the semifinals (or before). In this case, the difference between them would be 2,575 points with 2,500 points left to play for. Looking ahead to the next event in Sweden, these would be the circumstances for Tapia and Coello to be number 1.
In the event that Coello and Tapia win the final over the Superpibes, the difference between them would be 2,335 points. This means that the former would need 165 points between the tournament in Mexico and the Master Final. Something, a priori, very easy to achieve.
If Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno win the tournament in Sweden, they would cut points to Coello and Tapia in the Race 2023 and the fight would be a little more equal. Let’s look at several scenarios to see how the fight for the men’s number one would look like:
Tapia and Coello result | Points deducted | Difference |
They lose in the final | 400 | 1.535 |
They lose in the semifinal | 640 | 1.295 |
They lose in the quarter-finals | 820 | 1.115 |
They lose in the round of 16 | 910 | 1.025 |
They lose in the Round of 32 | 965 | 970 |
While there are several possibilities that could lead to the Superpibes being the world number one in the next three tournaments, it is no longer solely up to them. This means that even if Stupa and Di Nenno win, it will depend on when Coello and Tapia lose, if at all.
