The World Padel Tour’s South American tour will give a short break to some players, who won’t return to competition until the Granada Open (from the 8th to the 16th of April). Others, however, will play the Open 500 in Reus next week. Be that as it may, the Paraguay Open will be for many the last tournament they play as a couple, if the recently finished Chile Padel Open wasn’t already. New couples will become official in the next few days.
Paquito Navarro and Juan Tello’s split could be the trigger for everything, but youngsters Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger have also been in the news in the last few days for a split that will unite them with higher ranked partners.
Below, we tell you about all the moves that are taken for granted in many specialised media!
His project with Juan Tello hasn’t worked out. The change of side that Paquito Navarro devised last year hasn’t worked out, just as it didn’t work out for Fernando Belasteguín.
The player from Seville has planned his return to the left side and for this he has looked for a guaranteed drive, Fede Chingotto, as reported by Olé. Curiously, Navarro’s new partner will be Tello’s former partner, one of the most legendary and long-lasting couples on the professional circuit.
With this move, Chingotto will end prematurely his project with Javi Garrido, which started at the end of last season.
It’s clear that a split can lead to at least one other, but in this case it’s a domino effect. After the failure of his project with Paquito, Juan Tello has sought the accompaniment of a left-handed player, Alex Ruiz, according to Olé.
This breaks up the 100% Malaga couple he had with Momo Gonzalez. Undoubtedly, this is the least expected breakup, as the duo, despite not having won any title in this year that they have been together, has displayed great performances in several tournaments, even reaching the final, as happened in the Marbella Master of 2022.
His participation in Chile with Augsburger was due to the injury of his partner Álex Arroyo, who will now reappear, it seems, in Paraguay. But this will be the last tournament that Yanguas and Arroyo play together, who will start new projects after the South American tour.
Specifically, Mike Yanguas will start playing with Momo Gonzalez, two players who have known each other for a long time and have shared training matches on many occasions.
In fact, the new couple is already signed up for the Reus Open 500, their first tournament.
One of the first splits that we have known officially was that Pablo Cardona and Ivan Ramirez communicated that they would not continue playing together. In fact, Chile was their last tournament as a couple, as they will not be in Paraguay due to injury. Cardona said on his Instagram: “Chile would be our last tournament together. We won’t be in Paraguay due to an injury we’ve been carrying since the start of the season. Back home, back to training with maximum enthusiasm for what’s to come”.
It’s hard to believe that a duo that has had such a great start to the season would decide to break up. But according to reports, Pablo Cardona will form a couple with Alex Arroyo.
Shortly after starring with Leo Augsburger an outstanding performance in La Rioja, taking advantage of his wildcard to reach the final, it was announced that Tino Libaak would start playing with Miguel Lamperti.
Undoubtedly, a surprising move after such a result, but it is clearly understandable. Libaak and Augsburger are immersed in the qualifiers, and joining players with higher rankings guarantees them a direct start in the main draw.
Lamperti, 44, has already tutored other young players who are now in the main draw, such as Yanguas, Sanz and Arturo Coello. From Reus, he will try to contribute his wisdom to Tino Libaak, a player who promises a lot in professional padel at the age of 17.
Libaak will accompany Lamperti, and his former partner Leo Augsburger will do the same with Javi Rico. The Swedish media Padel Alto communicated it in a recent interview with the player.
With this, Javi Rico will end his short period with Jorge Ruiz, with whom he has only competed in the first tournament of the year in Abu Dhabi.
Another couple that will break up is the one formed by Javi Leal and Jon Sanz. In fact, the Andalusian player has signed up for the Reus Open with Juan Cruz Belluati.
The first Open 500 has allowed us to know that the 100% Valencian couple, Salva Oria and Josete Rico, will not continue playing together. Oria will join Jorge Ruiz, after his partner, Javi Rico, will join Leo Augsburger.
Likewise, Iván Ramírez has had to find a partner for the following tournaments after Pablo Cardona decided to break up the couple. So, the player from Madrid will form a couple with Josete Rico, with whom he will make his debut in Reus.
We still need to know who will accompany Javi Garrido and Jon Sanz from Granada, as bot players will not participate in Reus. An obvious option would be to play together, but there are also rumours of a split between Lucho Capra and Agustín Gutiérrez. So, We’ll have to wait a few days to know all the new couples!
