The finals of the Menorca Open 2023 were played this Sunday at the Pavelló Menorca. Both clashes had one thing in common, neither of the two couples that lead the ranking got the victory, falling on the side of Lebrón and Galán in the men’s category and Triay and Ortega in the women’s category.

That’s how the finals of the Menorca Open 2023 went!

Lebrón and Galán win a title in Spain again 10 months later

The men’s final pitted the World Padel Tour’s couples 1 and 3 against each other. On one side, Juan Lebron and Ale Galan, the number 1 couple of the last three years and, on the other, Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello, the best couple of this season.

The two couples started the final defending their serve. However, little by little, Lebron and Galan started to dominate the court. They got a break that distanced them in the first set, which turned out to be decisive. With a 6-3, Ale and Juan took the lead in the match.

In the second set, the game accelerated and the intensity increased, especially on Lebron and Galan‘s side. Two consecutive breaks put them 4-0 up on the scoreboard. They were able to get another break, but Tapia and Coello saved the situation by taking a golden ball.

The Argentine and the Spaniard tried to react and close the gap, managing to recover one of the two breaks, but they still couldn’t find their game today, the one that has helped them dominate the first half of the season. Finally, with a 6-2 win in the second set, Juan Lebron and Ale Galan were proclaimed champions of the Menorca Open 2023.

Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega win an epic final against the number 1 seeds

The women’s final in Menorca turned out to be an epic battle between the top two couples in the ranking, Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega against Ari Sánchez and Paula Josemaría. It was a tough day to compete for the player from Extremadura, whose grandmother had passed away a few hours earlier.

The match started with both couples measuring their strength and respecting each other with every ball. The first set progressed slowly and, in the end, Gemma and Marta managed to take the first set 6-4, thanks to a break advantage.

However, in the second set, Ari and Paula, the 2023 number ones, showed a great reaction and an exceptional level. The top-ranked couple went on to win 6-4 to force a third set.

The excitement was unleashed in the third set. The crowd vibrated with the four players and the final resolution was not decided until the tenth game. Despite the great effort of the number 1’s, Gemma Triay and Marta Ortega managed another 6-4 and were proclaimed winners of the Menorca Open 2023.
