The Santiago Premier Padel P1 already knows its winners: Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia in the men’s category and Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernández in the women’s category. Both couples have conquered the last title in the South American tour that has previously passed through Asuncion (Paraguay) and Mar del Plata (Argentina).
Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia are the winners of the Santiago Premier Padel P1 after beating Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto in the final by 6-0, 4-6 and 6-4.
Last night’s match was the sixth clash between the two couples that are destined to fight for the number 1 spot this year. Although Galan and Chingotto came into the final with a positive balance of 3 wins and 2 losses, Coello and Tapia’s triumph evened the match.
In the final of the Santiago P1, things couldn’t have started better for Agustín and Arturo. The player from Valladolid and the one from Catamarca overwhelmed their rivals in a perfect first set. 6-0 in less than 20 minutes.
However, Ale and Fede, as on other occasions when they started losing against these same opponents, reacted. The second set was much more evenly matched, with both couples going on the offensive. By the tenth game, Galan and Chingotto managed a decisive break that allowed them to make it 6-4 and force a third set.
In the last episode of the men’s final, the number ones started to carve their way to victory with a break in the third game. They held that one break advantage until the end and with a 6-4 lead Coello and Tapia closed out the match.
With this, Coello and Tapia add their fifth title of the season, ending the South American tour consisting of 3 tournaments with 2 titles to 1 for Galán and Chingotto.
Both couples will now take a break and won’t play the next Premier Padel tournament to be held in Bordeaux. They will play in Rome shortly after to play the Italy Major, the first Major in which they will possibly meet.
Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez won the Santiago Premier Padel P1 after beating Patty Llaguno and Lucia Sainz 6-1, 6-4 in the final.
Gemma and Claudia had been close to the title on several occasions. Specifically, they had already reached 3 finals, losing all of them. This morning, in their fourth final together, they made no mistake and ended up taking the title, the first for the couple and the first for the young Claudia Fernandez, who becomes the youngest player to win it, beating Bea Gonzalez.
The tie between both couples in the final lasted 3 games. In the fourth, Gemma and Claudia managed to get a break. Although Lucia and Patty had their chances to recover, they didn’t take advantage, and it ended up taking its toll on them. Couple 3 took the lead and took the rest of the games in the first set, which ended 6-1. The unforced errors from the couple 8 and not taking advantage of the break options, a total of 5, sentenced them in the first set of the final.
In the second set, on the other hand, Llaguno and Sainz were more determined at the start. They managed a break that helped them to take a 4-2 lead. However, Triay and Fernandez reacted perfectly, taking four consecutive games to turn the score around and end the match.
